St. Joseph looks to improve place in state meet
The St. Joseph boys cross country team looks to improve upon its 10th place finish in last year’s Class M state championship meet.
The Cadets return five of its top seven runners from last year’s team, including junior All-State runner James Mas. Mas, along with senior captain Kyle O’Brien, will headline a pack that includes seniors Evan Aldo and Will Gallagher and junior Nick Zannis.
“I’m looking forward to this season,” said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines. “We placed 10th in the state class (M) meet last year and our guys are determined to improve upon that this year.”
Senior Jack Guman, junior transfer Jacob Russell and freshman Ryan Haack will look to compete for spots on the varsity roster.
The Cadets also return juniors Nick Maltese and Matt Potvin, along with sophomores Matt Conway, Dylan DeMoura, Nicholas Russo and first-time runner Camren Menefee.
The freshman class includes Liam Callahan, Anthony Crocco, Brian Dineen, Kevin Frattaroli, Mark Kendziorski, Daniel Marchetti and Michael Pleszko.
“It’s an eight week season, leading up to the FCIAC meet,” said Scrivines, entering his 15th season leading the Cadets. “I like the makeup of our team and am looking forward to seeing how much we can move up in our state meet.”
St. Joseph will host the 4th annual St. Joseph Alumni and Friends 5K race on Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m.on-campus.
