St. Joseph girls sweep their way to Class M volleyball final

Coach Jeff Babineau’s St. Joseph High girls volleyball team defeated Waterford High, 3-0, in the Class M state semifinals in Hartford on Wednesday.

The third-seeded Cadets (20-3) will play top-seeded Granby Memorial (23-0) for the state title on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Glastonbury High. Granby defeated No. 4 Woodland Regional from Beacon Falls, 3-1, in its semifinal.

Lauren Pitney had 13 kills and three aces, Maite Gritsko had eight kills and Susie Vazzano 12 digs for St. Joseph in the 25-11, 25-16, 25-21 victory over No. 7 Waterford (15-6).
