St. Joseph edged out in FCIAC title game
The St. Joseph High hockey team lost to Ridgefield High, 5-4, in the FCIAC championship game on Saturday at the Terry Conners Rink in Stamford.
Seeded second, the Cadets (17-5-1) had to chase the lead against the sixth-seeded Tigers(18-5-0) throughout.
After a scoreless first period, the goals game in a flurry early in the second period.
Christian Keator scored the first of his three goals at the 4:59 mark to tie the game at 1, after Liam Smith’s goal had given the Tigers the lead only 22 seconds earlier.
Ridgefield made it 2-1 at 5:22, and at 5:40 Zach Usinger deadlocked the game again.
Ridgefield went on top at 8:51 on Smith’s second goal, and Vincent Rella’s tally with just over a minute remaining gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead after two periods.
Keator scored 1:03 into the third, but Cameron McGuire restored Ridgefield’s two-goal advantage with just over six minutes remaining.
Keator scored again, this time unassisted, at 13:19.
The Cadets’ Marc Van Etten had saves on 23 shots, while Dusty Rausa had 19 saves for the Tigers.
Ryan Corcoran had two assists and Matt Greenhut one.
