St. Joseph comes back to defeat Trumbull

St. Joseph scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to erase a 16-14 halftime deficit and the Cadets went on to defeat Trumbull High, 49-30, at McDougall Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

St. Joseph improved to 9-2. Trumbull finished its season 4-7.

Mufasha Abdul Basir and Lars Pedersen each scored their second touchdown of the game and Cory Babineau threw his second scoring stike in the pivitol period.

Trumbull took a 7-0 lead when Markeese Woods returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and Danny Hoffman made the first of three conversion kicks.

Babineau threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Pedersen and Marc Mrozek made the first of seven placements to tie the game.

The Eagles’ Adam Angelucci found paydirt on a 9-yard run to give Trumbull a 13-7 lead after one.

Hoffman kicked a 26-yard field goal to open the scoring in the second quarter. Abdul Basir’s 47-yard run took the score to 16-14 at the half.

Abdul Basir scored on a 14-yard run and Pedersen took the ball in from 39 yards out before Babineau connected with Seamus Keating for a 20-yard score.

Angelucci’s 2-yard run in the fourth quarter narrowed the margin to 35-23. St. Joseph answered with Abdul Basir’s 49-yard run.

Pedersen caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Babineau to extend St. Joseph’s lead to 49-23.

The Eagles’ Steve Nagy threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jack Kelly to complete the scoring.
