St. Joseph boys cross country roundup
Sophomore Ryan Haack led the St. Joseph High boys cross country team with a 30th place finish in 17:17 on the 2.9 mile course when coach David Scrivines’ Cadets took on Trumbull High, Fairfield Warde and Danbury on Oct. 13.
Junior Will Whitlock placed 35th in 17:41 and freshman Michael Zannis placed 42nd in 18:12. Junior Jack Moulder placed 43rd in 18:15 and sophomore Brian Dineen placed 44th in 18:16. Senior Nick Maltese (57th, 18:52) and freshman Dante Criscio (81st,20:03) wrapped up the top seven St. Joseph finishers.
Additional competitors for St. Joseph included: sophomore Michael Pleszko (84th, 20:20), sophomore Mark Kendziorski (89th, 20:39), junior Nicholas Russo (90th, 20:44), junior Stephen Garber (96th, 20:59), freshman Garrett Kalker (104th, 21:27), freshman Ben Kallsen (108th, 21:42), junior John Wypchoski (109th, 21:55), freshman Luke Healy (114th, 22:37), junior Joe Griffin (116th, 22:46) and freshman Manuel Garzon (121st, 23:10).
Senior James Mas won the unseeded varsity race with a winning time of 16 minutes, 30 seconds. Fellow senior Nick Zannis placed 21st overall in17:35, while sophomore Ryan Haack placed 124th in 19:14.
Sophomore Brian Dineen cracked the 20-minute barrier at 19:49 (193rd place), while junior Jack Moulder placed 219th in 20:02. Senior Nick Maltese placed 274th in 20:33 and freshman Michael Zannis placed 321st in 20:52.
In the 341-runner JV race, freshman Sean Yankocy led the way for the Cadets (136th, 21:48). Fellow freshman Dante Criscio placed 160th in 22:07, while sophomore Michael Pleszko placed 175th in 22:22 and junior Nicholas Russo placed 179th in 22:25. Sophomore Mark Kendziorski placed 181st in 22:28 and junior Stephen Garber placed 235th in 23:37.
In the 4,000-meter freshman race, Manuel Garzon placed 132nd in 18:08, while Garrett Kalker placed 193rd in 19:15. Luke Healy placed 279th in 21:49 and Igor Poliwoda placed 306th in 24:47.
St. Joseph defeated Stamford (27-29), but lost to Norwalk (30-27) and Staples (50-15) on Oct. 6.
Sophomore Ryan Haack led the way for the Cadets placing 13th overall in 19:01. Juniors Will Whitlock (20th place, 19:31) and Jack Moulder (24th place,19:43) both had strong races, while sophomore Brian Dineen placed 25th in 19:45.
Freshman Michael Zannis (38th,20:56), senior Nick Maltese (45th, 21:27) and freshman Dante Criscio (46th, 21:41) rounded out the top seven St. Joseph finishers.
