Softball: St. Joseph wins meeting of top two teams

St. Joseph defeated Westhill High, 5-2, in a matchup of the top two teams in the FCIAC softball standings in Stamford on Saturday.

St. Joseph’s Courtney Holden hit a three-run homer in the top of the first for the Cadets, now 14-0 in league play. Westhill is 12-2.

Hannah Hutchison led off the game with a double and Nicole Williams walked. Melissa Bike singled sharply to center to plate one run, before Holden cleared the left field wall on a two-strike pitch for three RBIs.

Freshman Elena Ball continued her torrid pace with two more hits, scoring one run.

Westhill scored a run in the first on an error, and plated another on a miscue in the third.

Williams struck out 13, allowed three hits, and walked none in a complete game performance.
