Salma Anastasio of Trumbull, coming off a sterling three-year soccer career at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, officially signed on to play women’s varsity soccer at Clemson University (S.C.) on Feb. 11, during a ceremony in the St. Luke’s Athletic Center.

Anastasio scored 34 goals and tallied six assists in just 17 games as a senior this fall. She finishes her career with three straight seasons as an All-FAA, CGSCA All-State and NEPSAC All-New England selection.

She joins Clemson, which competes in the ACC, one of the nation’s top women’s soccer leagues. Four of the top 10 and eight of the top 25 schools in this season’s final NSCAA Coaches’ Poll were ACC member schools.

“I wanted to go for a great education and soccer program”, said Anastasio, who also expressed excitement to attend school outside of the Northeast.

“Being at St. Luke’s helped me become a more productive student and a better teammate on the the soccer field. I’m looking forward to playing soccer at Clemson and competing with some of the best soccer players in the nation.”
