Sadler leaves St. Joe's to become next head football coach at Notre Dame
A very familiar face at St. Joseph High School will be coaching a few exits down the Merritt Parkway next year, as Cadets' defensive coordinator Chris Sadler is set to be the new head football coach at Notre Dame of Fairfield.
“I would like to thank Father Bill, Mr. Cipriano, Mr. Bleggi, and Mr. Olayos for the opportunity to be the next head football coach at Notre Dame of Fairfield," said Sadler in a press release. "As an administrative team they understand how football can energize a community and build school spirit. I am excited to help these student athletes realize their full potential on and off the field."
The former St. Joe's expert on defense certainly understood the SJHS program and helped it thrive, both as a player and as a coach. According to the St. Joseph High School football team web page, Sadler was a member of the coaching staff for the Hogs for the past 10 seasons.
During his tenure on the coaching staff, Sadler helped the Cadets win four state championships (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014).
In addition coaching, Sadler was a member of the Cadets and graduated from St. Joe's in 2001. During his senior season, Sadler was a captain and was given an All-FCIAC honor.
"I was fortunate enough to learn a great deal as an assistant coach at St. Joe’s over the last 10 years," Sadler said. "I look forward using my experience to lead this team into a successful future. My goal here at N.D. is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who leave this program understanding the importance of hard-work and teamwork, while working towards team goals of winning football games and eventually competing for league and state titles.”
Sadler is going to replace Ted Boynton, who was the Lancers head coach for the past two football seasons, and will be looking to bring stability to Notre Dame program. In the past decade, ND-Fairfield has had seven head coaches.
"I am very excited to welcome Coach Sadler to Notre Dame as our new head football coach," said Notre Dame Athletic Director Rob Bleggi in a press release sent to the Trumbull Times. "His knowledge and understanding of the game of football is undeniable. The experience and professionalism he brings with him will only help foster the culture of football here at ND. I am very excited to have Coach Sadler as our head coach as we move towards the future of out program."
