The Trumbull Pisces Swimming Association (Pisces) will  participation in SWIM Across the Sound, which will take place on Saturday, July 25.
The SWIM Marathon consists of individuals and teams up to six swimmers that swim from Port Jefferson, Long Island to Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport.
Head coach Bill Strickland estimates the 15.5 mile swim will take six to seven hours. He said, “This is our third year doing the swim and we couldn’t be more excited to challenge ourselves to swim better than last year, but also to raise more money for St. Vincent’s cancer programs.”
The team consists of Strickland, assistant coach Chris Fracker, assistant coach Colleen Carroll, and Trumbull High School and Pisces swimmers Victoria Batchelor, Bowen Redgate and Alex Jozwa.
Team members swim in relay fashion for the duration of the race and will swim anywhere from two to four miles each.
“I am so excited to be part of this year’s team from the Pisces for Swim Across the Sound,” said Bowen Redgate, a first-time participant.
“I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to participate in the Swim,” said Alex Jozwa, a first-time participant and the youngest member of the team.
Strickland said, “This is just another example of how our team has come together to do something for a greater cause. The enthusiasm from the swimmers, the parents, our board and our community has been amazing.”
Each team raises money for St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation, which provides cancer education, screening and prevention programs at low- or no-cost for uninsured and underinsured.
