Pairings set for FCIAC girls hoop
The field is set for the FCIAC girls basketball tournament, which begins with quarterfinal games at Westhill High School in Stamford on Saturday.
Here are the match-ups with seeds and league records.
FCIAC Quarterfinals at Westhill HS, Saturday, Feb. 22
No. 6 Greenwich (13-5) vs. No. 3 Westhill (14-4), noon
No. 7 Ludlowe (13-5) vs. No. 2 Wilton (15-3), 2 p.m.
No. 5 Warde (14-4) vs. No. 4 Stamford (14-4), 5 p.m.
No. 8 Trumbull (12-6) vs. No. 1 Danbury (16-1), 7 p.m.
The FCIAC semifinals will be held at 6 and 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb 25, at Fairfield-Ludlowe, with the final set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27.The Danbury Hatters finalized the No. 1 seed with a 57-42 win over the Ludlowe Falcons on Wednesday. The Hatters, who are 16-1, have a game against Harding to play on Thursday.
Ludlowe’s loss dropped Falcons out of a four-way tie for fourth place to the No. 7 spot.
The Greenwich Cardinals and Trumbull Golden Eagles, who were tied for seventh coming into the day, squared off with Greenwich winning 32-29.
That win gave the Cardinals a 13-5 record and pushed them past Ludlowe based on their head-to-head win over the Falcons.
Trumbull took the eighth spot.
The Wilton Warriors were a clean No. 3 seed with a 14-3 record, while the Westhill Vikings, Stamford Black Knights, and Warde Mustangs tied for third place with 14-4 records.
Westhill took the No. 3 seed based, having beaten both of those teams, while Stamford, which beat the Mustangs in their head-to-head meeting, takes the No. 4 seed. Warde settled in at No. 5.
