The St. Joseph High boys lacrosse snapped a two-game skid, defeating Danbury High, 15-5 on Saturday. The victory improved the Cadets to 9-5 this season with games remaining at home with Fairfield Ludlowe Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Trinity Catholic Wednesday at 3.

“Today was senior day,” said St. Joseph head coach Joe Izzo. “It was a very emotional day. We tried to get everyone in. Danbury ran a solid zone against us. At first our guys were not so patient …But the end result was excellent. It’s another FCIAC win, which gets us closer to the FCIAC tournament.”

Senior attacker Preston Ouellette led the Cadets with six goals and an assist. Justice Cook, Jared Newel and Mike Sudora each notched a pair of scores.

Pete Bashar and Mike Brennan each had three assists. Colin Powell had two assists.

Connor Warren led the Hatters (4-10), who had won two straight games, with two goals. Colton Cherney, Jordan Osuch and Robert Swenson added scores.

“Preston has just been really solid. The whole group, there was a lot of unselfish play out there,” Izzo said.

“Preston has been a really great leader and he and Colin bring that whole offensive group together.

“Pete Bashar at the midfield level, along with Mike Brennan, are able to take in the younger guys, settle them down and get them to do what we need to do.”
