Next Dimension gymnasts star at state meet
The Level 7-10 USA Gymnastics Connecticut State Championship meet was held March 22-23, at the Beckerman Athletic Center in Hamden.
Next Dimension Gymnastics of Trumbull had Regional qualifiers from all four levels and two state champions.
In level 7, Mari Andrezjewski placed fourth on vault with a 9.425 and Ashley Johnson had one of the top all around scores with a 37.025.
Nine-year-old Sarah Mauro finished with a very strong 36.7 in the all around for third place in her age group.
Annsley Martin had a solid day placing on all events and finishing second in the all around with a 37.575.
Level 8 gymnast Natalie Smerling placed second on the vault with a 9.5 and Samantha Markland finished second on the bars with a 9.425.
Level 9 Jennifer O’Neill placed in the all around with a 35.375, fourth on floor with a 9.2 and was vault state champions with a 9.4.
Level 10 Linda McAuley was also vault state champion with a 9.5.
These two vault scores were the highest scores in the entire state at these levels, regardless of age group.
McAuley also finished second on floor with a 9.225 and in the all around with a 35.525.
Level 10 Julia Sebben placed second on uneven bars with a 9.05 and fourth in the all around with a 35.4.
The state gymnasts who qualified with top all-around scores will continue their competitive season to represent Connecticut at the Regional Championships in Massachusetts in April.
These girls include McAuley and Sebben (Level 10), O’Neill (Level 9), Markland (Level 8) and Martin (Level 7).
