The St. Joseph boys cross country team defeated Bridgeport Central on Sept. 16, in a five-team meet at Fairfield Warde. The Cadets (3-5) defeated Central, 18-41.

Seniors Kyle O’Brien (21st, 18:56) and Evan Aldo (23rd, 19:20) were the top St. Joseph finishers. They were followed by a trio of freshman, as Ryan Haack (44th, 20:57), Brian Dineen (55th, 21:55) and Michael Pleszko (56th, 21:58) finished in the group of top five Cadet finishers.

“We were able to get more race experience for a lot of our runners today,” said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines. “With so many first-year runners, getting race experience is real valuable for this group.”

Sophomore Dylan DeMoura placed 62nd in 22:23, while junior Nick Maltese placed 64th in 22:29 and sophomore Nicholas Russo placed 68th in 24:35.

Sophomore Camren Menefee placed 71st in 24:51, while fellow freshman Daniel Marchetti (25:15) and Anthony Crocco (27:20) placed 73rd and 75th, respectively.  Sophomore Matt Conway placed 77th in 28:11.

St. Joseph was defeated by Greenwich (47-15), Trumbull (50-15) and Warde (50-15).

The Cadets travel to Amherst, Mass. on Saturday for the Amherst Invitational. They return to FCIAC action on Tuesday with a five-team team at home against Fairfield Ludlowe, Bassick, Stamford, and McMahon.
