Tim Keckler pitched six solid innings and Joe Nemchek came on in the seventh to earn the save when Trumbull Post 141 defeated Kingston (N.Y.) Post 150 by a score of 4-2 in the second round of pool play in the Firecracker Tournament at Dean College in Franklin, Mass. on Thursday morning.

Trumbull will play Aceshnet (Mass.) on Friday morning.

Trumbull took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out, Luke Waldek singled through the middle and Mark Hirshbeck was hit by a pitch. After an infield fly, Zach Sagar slapped an RBI single to center scoring Waldek. Hirshbeck went third and scored on passed ball.

It was 3-0 after three innings. Stanley Wolpiuk singled to left on the first pitch from Bernard Smith and stole second and third.

Following a strikeout, Carl Johnson walked to put runners at the corners for Simon Whiteman, who executed a suicide squeeze towards first base scoring Wolpiuk.

Kingston made it 3-1 in the top of the third on two hits, an error and a sacrifice fly.

Trumbull pulled that run back in the fifth. Whiteman led off with a single and stole second. Waldek bunted Whiteman to third and he scored on Mat DeRienzo’s second hit of the game.

Kingston got on the board again in the sixth on a hit batter, a single and an error on a pickoff attempt.

Keckler, who struck out five and scattered six hits without giving up an earned run,  faced two batters in the seventh, hitting a batter and giving up a single.

Nemchek came on and caught a bunt attempt on the fly and then induced fly-ball outs to center and right field.
