Katie Gardella knocked in the go-ahead run with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and coach Jeff Babineau’s St. Joseph High softball team opened its season with a 3-2 victory over Lauralton Hall in Trumbull on Wednesday. Nicole Williams pitched into the seventh to gain the win, with Mikaela Mallozzi earning the save.

Lauren Pitney had two hits and scored a run and Tori Ceballos had two hits and an RBI for the Cadets, who scored runs in the first, third and sixth innings.

Lauralton was led by Maureen Connolly, who had two of its four hits and scored a run. The Crusaders scored twice in the top of the first inning.
