Katie Foley captured the 800 meter run title at the Class LL girls track and field championships in Danbury on Thursday, Jan. 5.

Foley, a senior, ran past Staples of Westport’s Tyler Scanlon in the final 100 meters to set a meet record and personal best time of 2:13,47.

Kate Romanchick, a freshman was seeded ninth in the 3200 meter run and placed sixth with a personal record of 11:43.

Both girls received medals for placing in the top six and Foley will compete in the State Open on Monday, June 9, at Middletown High.

Tara Oliver was seventh in the javelin throw at 103-06 and Meghan Malloy tied for eighth with a high jump of 4-8.

In the boys championship, the 4x400 relay team of Joe Matera, Brian Moccia, Tyler Green and Neil Barrow took second with a time of 3:22.46 to earn a spot at the State Open.

Matera moved on to the Open in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.65, which was good for fifth.
