The St. Joseph High boys cross country team placed 11th out of 40 teams in Saturday’s Wickham Invitational in East Hartford.

The Cadets scored 365 points in the varsity unseeded race, led by James Mas. The St. Joseph junior won the race, finishing the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 57 seconds.

“This was the first time one of our runners won a varsity invitational meet,” said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines. “We had a solid team performance and a good preview of the course for our state meet (Oct. 25) on the same course.”

Junior Nick Zannis placed 18th overall in 18:18 and senior Evan Aldo placed 81st in 19:33.

St. Joseph freshman Ryan Haack (122nd, 20:07) and Brian Dineen (171st, 20:47) ran their first races at Wickham Park, while junior Nick Maltese (238th, 22:01) wrapped up the varsity scoring for the Cadets.

In the junior varsity race, Nicholas Russo placed 175th in 24:48.

Liam Callahan (176th, 21:12) and Kevin Frattaroli (193rd, 22:06) both competed in the 2.5-mile freshman race.

The Cadets compete in the FCIAC championship race on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Waveny Park in New Canaan.
