The St. Joseph High boys cross country team placed 10th in Saturday’s Class M state championship race at Wickham Park in East Hartford. St. Joseph had 298 points in the 27-team race.

Sophomore James Mas placed fifth overall in 17:05.  In doing so, Mas earns All-State honors and will compete in Friday’s State Open race at Wickham Park.

“James has been so consistently strong all season. Saturday was another strong performance,” said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines. “It’s great to get someone into the (state) Open.”

Senior Jared Quigley placed 62nd overall in 18:53 and junior Kyle O’Brien placed 67th in 19:02.

Sophomore Nick Zannis placed 83rd in 19:26 and junior Evan Aldo placed 85th in 19:27.

Junior Will Gallagher placed 105th in 20:07 and senior Aidan Quigley placed 115th in 20:27.

“I was pleased that Aidan and Jared (Quigley) had strong runs to finish off their high school careers,” said Scrivines. “We talk about runners maxing out their abilities, so it was good to see strong performances in their final high school races.”

Mas will compete on Friday at 2 p.m. in the State Open meet in East Hartford.
