Hnatuk's 3-hitter leads Legion baseball to win

Brian Hnatuk pitched a complete game three-hitter and the Trumbull Post 141 American Legion baseball team defeated Bridgeport, 4-2, on Thursday.

The win gave Post 141 the series, 2-1, and Trumbull will next host Wilton in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Hnatuk struck out eight, walked one, and allowed only one earned run.

Bridgeport scored both its runs in the first inning.

Antonio Andino drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on wild pitch. Rolando Marcano’s bunt single puts runners at first and third and scored on an infield error with the RBI going to Joshua Nieves.

After a double steal ended in an error to plate the second run, Hnatuk struck out the next three batters.

Trumbull drew even in the third inning.

Simon Whiteman led off with a single to left and went to second when Chris Campbell’s pickoff attempt was off the mark.

Zach Sagar singled past third to put runners on the corners for and Frank Pulgia followed with an RBI single.

Daniel Mendez walked with one out to load the bases.

With the bases still loaded after after a forceout at home, Frank LePegna singled to left to tie the game.

Trumbull went in front with two runs in the sixth inning.

Dustin Siquera got things started with a walk and went to third on Whiteman’s double.

Sagar singled Siquera home and Chris O’Brien’s double scored Whiteman.

Charles Richardson and Chris Padro had singles for Bridgeport.
