The Trumbull High Post 141 American Legion baseball team defeated Darien, 15-5, in Zone IV action on June 12.

“It was a good opening day win for our ball club,” Trumbull coach Brett Conner said. “ Stanley Wolpiuk did an excellent job pitching for us. He left some pitches up in the first inning, which Darien took advantage of, but he ended up making the necessary adjustments and he pitched a great game.

“Our offense was outstanding today. Mark Hirschbeck got the momentum back in the second inning when we were down (3-0) with his three-run home run to left. This game had a lot of teachable moments and the kids responded positively to them.”

Post 141 scored five times in each the second and third innings and had 14 hits to seven for Darien.

Zack Sagar had four hits, including two doubles, and had three RBIs.

Hirschbeck and Matt Fasoli had three hits. Luke Waldek had two hits.
