The Trumbull High football team defeated Norwalk High, 28-6, on Saturday.

Coach Bob Maffei’s Eagles improved to 3-0 in FCIAC action and 3-1 overall. The Bears are 2-2.

Marc Cesare gave Trumbull the lead with a 6-yard run and Lance Bragg made the first of his four conversion kicks.

Nick Roberts threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Hayduk to make it 14-0 in the second quarter, before Norwalk halved the lead on Jeremy Linton’s 1-yard run.

Quentin Brunetti’s 29-yard scoring reception from Roberts gave Trumbull a 21-6 lead at the break.

Roberts found Hayduk from 28 yards out in the third quarter to complete the scoring.

Trumbull boys soccer

Chris Anderson and Justin Lynch scored a pair of goals each, when coach Sebastian Gangemi’s team defeated Bassick of Bridgeport, 5-1, on Oct. 7.

Bassick took a 1-0 lead before Juan Carreno tied the game in the 32nd minute with Anderson getting the assist.

Trumbull (5-5) took the lead 15 minutes into the second half on Lynch’s tally off an Eric Neil assist.

Anderson scored unassisted in at 68 minutes and made it 4-1 on a Thang Dao assist with four minutes remaining.

Lynch’s second goal came off Anderson’s second assist in the 78th minute.

Josh Armine had two saves.

Lynch’s second goal of the game, coming in the 60th minute, broke a 1-1 tie and gave Trumbull a 2-1 victory over Stamford High on Oct. 3.

Neil assisted on Lynch’s first tally, which gave the Eagles the lead in the final minute of the first half.

Anderson had the second assist for Trumbull.

Armine stopped 5 shots by the Black Knights (7-2-1).

St. Joseph X-Men

The St. Joseph High boys cross country team defeated McMahon of Norwalk and Harding High on Oct. 1 in Greenwich.

The six-team meet featured overall meet winner Staples of Westport, along with Trumbull and Greenwich.

The Cadets (7-7) were led by sophomore James Mas, who recorded a fifth-place finish in 16:28. Senior Jared Quigley (46th, 19:12), junior Evan Aldo (47th, 19:15), junior Jack Guman (52nd, 19:31), senior Aidan Quigley (53rd, 19:32) and senior Joe Capio (56th, 19:49) all ran solid races for St. Joseph.

Seniors Chris Haack (20:14) and Jon Lemanski (20:30) placed 63rd and 68th, respectively.

Freshman Nicholas Russo placed 94th in 23:26 and sophomore Nick Maltese placed 95th in 23:37.

Trumbull girls volleyball

Trumbull earned a 3-0 victory over the Norwalk Bears on Oct. 2.

Mia Hampford made her debut for coach Tamara DeBerry and the sophomore had five kills, and ended the match with a nine-point service run, including three aces.

Anna Bivona had 20 assists and 10 service points with 3 aces, as the Eagles improved to 5-3 on the season.

Steph Targonski had nine kills, 11 service points and three aces in the 25-6, 25-13, 25-7 FCIAC win.

Trumbull cross country

Shane Romanchick, a junior, finished first for the Trumbull High boys cross country team in a time of 17:15, placing him 10th overall, and Kate Romanchick, a freshman, finished first for Trumbull on the girls varsity course in 17:35, placing her 6th overall, in a meet at Greenwich’s Tod’s Point on Oct. 1.

Junior Julie Provenzano was 13th overall and Oliva Nestro was 14th overall in the 3.1-mile race.
