Delilah Destefano hit a two-run home run in an eight-run third inning for coach Jacqui Sheftz’ Eagles when Trumbull defeated Ridgefield High, 15-3, on Monday. Trumbull improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the FCIAC. Alexa Adinolfi was 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Julia Huzi, Cassi Barbato and Ava Dunn each had two hits. Mackenzie Bruggeman had two hits including a double, four RBIs and retired nine straight batters in relief to pick up her first varsity win. Trumbull defeated host Glastonbury, 9-1, on Saturday. Emily Gell pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven batters. Bruggeman had two doubles and drove in a run. Maggie Coffin singled, doubled and had two RBIs. Barbato had two hits, including a two-run double. Courtney Fairfield hit a double.

St. Joseph softball

Kaitlin Capobianco hit a home run and drove in four runs to lead St. Joseph to an 8-3 victory over Newark Academy in Trumbull on Sunday. Cami Heintz hit a home run and scored three runs for coach Jeff Babineau’s Cadets. Hannah Hutchison singled tripled and plated three runners. Capobianco finished the day with three hits. Cat Connell got the start and left with the game tied at 3. Payton Doiron pitched the final four innings. St. Joseph defeated Bridgeport Central, 17-0, on Monday. Kayla Giacobbe had a home run and four RBIs. Hutchison had two hits and scored three runs. Charlee Horton had two hits and drove in three runs.

Trumbull baseball

Trumbull High lost a 2-0 decision to Cheshire High on Saturday. Cheshire’s Ben Shadeck allowed five hits in pitching six innings for the 2-0 Rams. Jay Chiappetta went the distance for the Eagles. Matt Downing had a double and an RBI for Cheshire, which scored both runs in the second inning. Chris Brown went 2-for-3 for Trumbull (1-1).

Trumbull girls tennis

The Trumbull High girls tennis team defeated Stamford High, 5-2, on Thursday. Singles: Unique Akinloye (T) def. Cara Addison 6-1, 6-1; Julia Louw (T) def. Hannah Bushell 6-0, 6-2; Lauren Louw (T) def. Sophia Negyesi 6-2, 6-2 and Evani Dalal (T) def. Cindy Luo 6-4, 6-3. Doubles: Taylor Yaghmaie/Devon Yaghmaie (S) def. Laine Neufeld/Amelia Grasso 6-0, 6-1; Symphony Akinloye/Leilani Brown (T) def. Maggie Meister/Nina Passaro 4-6, 6-0, 6-3; and Emily Wharmby/Megan McKeever (S) def. Isabella Basic/ Libby Liggins 6-3, 6-2.

Gabby Gatto (6-0, 6-0), Claire Seperack (6-4, 6-0), Jayne Hickey (6-6, 6-3) and Chloe Mattison (6-0, 6-0) won at singles for coach Carmen Pagliarella’s Cadets. Audrey Patrick and Gina Giannotta won No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0. Deb Yohau and Skylar Shandrowski took second doubles, 6-3, 6-0. Alice Maldon and Isabella Wolson won at No. 3 doubles. Gatto posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles when the Cadets lost to Warde, 6-1, on Monday.
