Great River rowing team excels in Providence

The Great River Rowing Club of Shelton competed in the Providence Sweeps and Sculls this weekend, earning six gold, two bronze, and a silver medal.

Pictured are coach John Leonard, Paul Rossi, Sam Micinilio, Maddie Parente, Meredith Newman, Molly McGuire and Lauren Knapp. This group earned golds in the Men’s, Mixed, and Women’s Junior quadruple sculls, as well as the Men’s double sculls.

Great River Rowing will resume in the fall.

Practice is daily on the Housatonic River, out of Beacon Point Marina in Shelton.

The program is open to middle school and high school students in the Greater New Haven Area, and the team competes in regattas throughout the Northeast.
