Girls track: Trumbull fifth, Romanchick first at Invitational
The Trumbull High girls track team capped off its regular season with a solid performance at the 85th Greater Hartford Outdoor Invitational in Simsbury.
The Eagles placed third in the Large School Division and fifth out of the 30 high schools competing.
Trumbull had strong performances in the relays, with the 4x100 team of Erica Woolen, Haley Mocker, Gesica Scaccia, Nicole Cannone and Kathleen Kaufmann placing ninth in a time of 52.64.
The 4x400 team finished seventh in a time of 4:22.58. Team members included Ashley Storino, Rebecca Crosley, Mocker and Stephanie Kokanos.
The 4x800 team took third overall, with Storino, Sydney Adams, Kate Romanchick and Margaret LoSchiavo running as a team in a time of 10:09.23.
Romanchick was seeded sixth in the 1600. Eighth coming off the line, Romanchick quickly moved into third position, running neck and neck with Caitlin Swanson of Tolland by the second lap.
Swanson and Romanchick then overcame Simsbury's Maeve Daily. The duo led the last lap side by side, with Romanchick taking the lead in the last 100 meters and crossing the finish line to the roar of the crowd in a time of 5:07.69.
Swanson took second in 5:08.98. Ivy Walker from Pomperaug was third in 5:10.46 and Daily took fourth in 5:14.39.
Romanchick ended the day with a win, a personal best in the event by eight seconds, and a tie for the girls 1600 school record.
Storino was ninth in the 800 (2:29.08).
Adams was second in the pole vault (9-0).
Julianne Spillane was eighth (32-04) and Scaccia ninth (3201) in the triple jump.
Gabriela Misiewicz (96-06) and Kayla Wong (93-02) led the way in the javelin.
Jamie Maresca had a throw of 29-04) in the shot put.
