Girls track: Trumbull High closing season strong

The Trumbull High girls track team had a solid 105-40 win over Staples High on Monday.

Coach Jim McCaffrey's girls had strong performances with Haley Mocker leading the way in the 100 with a time of 12.9.

Other top performers included Rebecca Crossley in the 200 (28.2), Gesica Scaccia and Brooks Shafer in the 400,  Abby Johnson in the 300 hurdles (56.3), Meghan Sullivan in the 800 (2:33.55), Ashley Storino in the 1600 (5:33.42), Maggie LoSchiavo in the 3200 (12:23), Jude Spillane in the long jump (14-0) and triple jump (30-7), Sydney Adams in the pole vault (8-0) and Meghan Switzgable in the high jump (4-10).

The Eagles also competed with Danbury, who won 85-40.

In earlier action, the girls competed against Ridgefield and Greenwich.

Kate Romanchick won the 1600 in a time of 5:17.44. She came back in the 800, placing third in a personal-best 2:22. Romanchick came back in the 3200 to win in 11:49. Romanchick earned a total of 27 points for her team.

Mocker placed first in the 200 in a time of 27.45.

Erica Woolen was third in the high  jump (4-06).

Adams was second in the pole vault (8-06).

Scaccia took third in the triple jump (30-08.5).

Nicole Baker was second in the discus (93-04) and Grace Zangrilli placed third (90-00).

Nicole Clawson was second in the javelin (88-02) and Gabrielle Misiewicz third (86-10).

Trumbull is a 5-3 and will complete the regular season at home against Bridgeport Central Harding and Bassick on Monday.

Trumbull will be attending The Greater Hartford Invitational in Simsbury on Saturday.

Romanchick will also be competing at The Loucks Games in White Plains (N.Y.) on Friday. She is one of three state runners to make the cut for the 3200-meter race. The Loucks Memorial Games is regarded as one of the top high school meets in the United States with teams competing from New York State, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
