Girls track: Trumbull Eagles 11th in Class LL

The Trumbull High girls track team capped off a great season with an 11th-place finish out of 25 teams at the Class LL Championships in New Britain’s Willow Brook Park on Wednesday.

Kate Romanchick led the way for the Eagles, taking second position to Hannah DeBalsi of Staples in the 1600-meter run. After being boxed in at the start, Romanchick held the position and maintained it to finish in a time of 5:11.00.

The 3200-meter race race drew some excitement, as the top heat of girls ran in a tight pack for the first half of the race. Romanchick and Gabriella Napoli of Southington battled it out for second position, with Romanchick pulling away with less than 50 meters to go. The junior captured second place in 11:18.73, with Napoli hot on her heals taking third in 11:19.17. DeBalsi placed first.

Megan Switzgable took the fifth spot in the high jump.

Sydney Adams was seventh in the pole vault.

Gesica Scaccia placed 11th in the triple jump.

Nicole Baker was 12th in the discus throw.

The top eight finishers earn points for the team. The top six medal and the top five move on to State Open.

Romanchick and Switzgable both qualified for State Opens on June 6, at Willow Brook Park.

Francesca Esposito, Grace Troyer, Danielle Cross and Gabriella Lindade were 18th in the 4x800 (11:10.74).

Olivia Kennedy, Nicole Cannone, Scaccia and Haley Mocker were 13th in the 4x100 (51.36).

Mocker was 18th (13.53) in the 100-meter dash and 19th in the 200 (27.25).

Margaret LoSchavo was 20th (5:37.34) in the 1600 and 24th (12:21.65) in the 3200.

Rebecca Crosley was 19th (1:02.29) in the 400.

Sydney Adams was 21st (52.46) in the 300 hurdles.

Ashley Storino was 14th in the 800 (2:29.13).

Jessica Esposito was 44th (14.00) in the 100-meter dash.

Crosley, Kylie Adams, Olivia Okoroafor and Stephanie Kokenos were 17th (4:34.58) in the 4x400.

Gabriella Misiewicz was 15th (85-01) and Kayla Wong 16th (78-00) in the javelin throw.

Jamie Maresca was 16th (28-00.75) in the shot put.

Julianne Spillane was 14th in the triple jump (32.01) and 16th (15-03.50) in the long jump.

Victoria-Lee Walsh was  21st (15-00.75) and Lauren Scaccia 30th in the long jump.

Astonique Robinson was 14th (83-04), Kate D'Amato 17th (79-00) and Grace Zangrilli 19th (66-07) in the discus.
