Girls softball: Trumbull defeats Norwalk, makes states

Trumbull High defeated Norwalk High, 12-0, when coach Jacqui Sheftz’s Eagles qualified for the state tournament on Friday. Trumbull is 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the FCIAC. The Bears are 7-5, 3-5 FCIAC.

Ally Szabo allowed the Bears only two hits and struck out 10 batters in the by-rule shortened five-inning contest.

Lea Thompson had two doubles, a triple and three RBIs for Trumbull, which scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Erica Fluskey (double) and Jill O’Connell had three hits each.

Kristen Dutertre had two hits, including a double.

Lauren Zielinski had two hits.

Marisa Valenti had a double, as did Courtney Fairfield for her varsity hit.

Dina DiBlasio and Alli Pitasi had hits for the Bears.
