Girls soccer: Staples defeats Trumbull on penalty kicks

The Trumbull High girls soccer team lost 2-1 (3-1 PKs) at Staples High in a Class LL quarterfinal match in Westport on Saturday.

Coach Daniel Uhrlass’ 12th-seeded Eagles finish 12-5-3.

Staples (15-4-1), the 4th seed, will play No. 8 Danbury in the semifinals.

The Hatters defeated top-seeded Suffield, 1-0.

Marlo Von der Ahe scored off a pass from Ashley Wright in the second half to give Staples the lead.

Trumbull’s Julia Jager tied the match in the 9th minute.

The Wreckers won the penalty kick phase to advance.

Trumbull’s Avery Rice had 15 saves in regulation.

Staples’ Anna Sivinsky made four saves.
