Girls soccer: St. Joseph tops Warde on PKs

St. Joseph won 4-2 on penalty kicks to defeat Fairfield Warde on Friday and advance to the FCIAC girls soccer semifinals next Tuesday.

The top-seeded Cadets (15-1-1) will play fifth-seeded Wilton High (12-4-1) at 5 p.m. at the Warriors’ Kristin Lilly Soccer Field.

Ridgefield (15-2-0) will meet Staples of Westport (12-2-3) in the second semifinal.

After a scoreless first half, Lindsey Savko gave St. Joseph the lead seven minutes into the second session, before the eighth-seeded Mustangs (7-6-4) tied the game on Anna Glovin’s penalty kick with 15 minutes left in regulation.

St. Joseph keeper Veronica O’Rourke’s save on PK’s spelled the difference for coach Jack Nogueria’s squad.
