The Christian Heritage School of Trumbull’s girls soccer team defeated Watkinson School from Hartford, 1-0, to win the Housatonic Valley Athletic League title at Indian Ledge Park on Saturday, Nov. 14.

It was a battle between the top two seeds in the league, CHS being the #1 seed, and a rematch of last year's championship game.

CHS carried the play for most of the game as they created multiple chances in a game. It got on the scoreboard midway through the second half after Ranita Muriel tracked down a through ball into the Watkinson box. Her close range shot was too much for the keeper to handle. The deflection fell to the feet of Lindsey Augustin, who put the home team up 1-0 with what would prove to be the game winner.

There was strong play throughout the game by CHS' backs and goalkeeper Soph Loft, who with 10 minutes to go was able to make a brilliant diving save to her right to keep Watkinson shut out.

This was CHS' second championship in as many years. They move their overall record to 11-3-4 and will next play in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Tournament.
