Girls lacrosse: Trumbull defeats Masuk Panthers, 7-6

Trumbull High's girls lacrosse team earned a 7-6 victory at non-conference opponent Masuk in Monroe on Saturday.

Riley Chase netted a hat-trick, Shannon Siebold scored twice, and Madeline Nemchek and Emily Tinnesz added goals for Trumbull.

Sophia Hopwood, Siebold and Tinnesz all had two assists for the Eagles.

Trumbull goaltender Miriam Marino made seven saves.

Masuk netminder Bella Medaris stopped 10 shots.

The Panthers got two goals apiece from Gillian Cohen, Gabby Beckett and Kelly O'Meara.

Masuk's Samantha Sebben forced a turnover with 30 seconds remaining to give the Panthers a chance to tie the game, but Trumbull's Caroline SanAngelo intercepted a Masuk pass seconds later to help the Eagles seal the win.

Trumbull led 5-4 at halftime and extended the lead 3:22 into the second half on Chase's second goal, following a Tinnesz interception.

Chase got her third goal only 26 seconds later.

Masuk scored the next two.

Beckett intercepted a pass and set up Cohen for a goal from point-blank range less than six and a half minutes into the second half.

After Medaris made some tough saves to keep it a 7-5 game, O'Meara circled from behind the Trumbull net and whipped home a goal with 4:15 left.
