The Trumbull High girls cross country team finished the dual-meet portion of its schedule with a sweep of Fairfield Warde (25-31), Staples (18-43) and Brien McMahon (15-50) on Tuesday afternoon in Trumbull.

Junior Maggie LoSchiavo won the 2.9 mile race with a time of 18:55, the fifth-fastest mark by a Trumbull runner on the THS course.

“Maggie is our number-one runner and has gained much confidence this season,” said Trumbull head coach Jim McCaffrey. “It was nice to see her win this race.”

Sophomore Ally Zaffina placed second (19:28.47), while senior Ashley Storino finished sixth (19:50).

Freshmen Kiki Grant (20:16), Brenna Asaro (20:41) and Calyn Carbone (20:45) finished ninth, 10th and 11th.

Senior Lianne Iassogna placed 15th (21:22).

Tuesday also marked the final home meet for 24 Trumbull seniors:  Morgan Blyberg, Noelle Brideau, Sarah Brindisi, Emma Butler, Sarah Cirillo, Kiera Cullen, Erin Doris, Ramije Egriu, Sarah Gossman, Melanie Haight, Christie Hurteau, Lianne Iassogna, Emily Jorge, Maggie Lyons, Sarah Margolnick, Miriam Marino, Ashley Matera, Emma Parente, Jillian Ryan, Lauren Scaccia, Maggie Silva, Ashley Storino, Caitlin Walsh and team manager Shannon Siebold.

The Eagles, with a 12-3 final dual meet record, now set their sights on the FCIAC Championship Meet, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at New Canaan’s Waveny Park.

“We are looking forward to competing at the FCIACs next week,” McCaffrey said. “We are working hard as a team, and I believe we have much more to accomplish.”
