“I’m proud of the progress I saw today and proud of our girls for how they pushed,” Trumbull head coach Jim McCaffrey said. “We gained valuable experience today running on the same course we will run at the Class LL state championships later this month.”

Trumbull started the day in fine fashion, capturing the Freshmen team championship, narrowly defeating runner-up East Greenwich (R.I.), 33-34.

Trumbull’s strong showing was led by the first-year trio of Kiki Grant, Brenna Asaro and Calyn Carbone, who finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 4,000 meter race.

Allie Palmieri (16th place), Alexa Yardis (24th) and Ina Ralakhar (27th) all had strong performances to lead the Eagles to the team title.

“Not all races are perfect, and the freshmen faced some challenges with the course markings, but they overcame it and solidified themselves as a team to watch, both now and in the future,” McCaffrey said.

The Eagles host their final quad meet of the regular-season on Tuesday, when they greet Staples, Fairfield Warde and Brien McMahon at 4 p.m.

Trumbull will then compete in the FCIAC Championship at New Canaan’s Waveny Park on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
