
The Trumbull High girls basketball team jumped to an 11-point first-quarter lead and the Eagles maintained the advantage the rest of the way in defeating visiting Hamden High, 64-51, on Tuesday night.
Coach Steve Tobitsch’s Eagles led 20-9 after one period, extended the margin to 33-23 at the half and 50-36 after three quarters.
Claudia Tucci scored 28 points on 10 baskets and an 8-for-9 performance at the foul line in the season opener for both teams. She also had 10 rebounds.
Taylor Brown made a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 18 points..
Julie Keckler (3-pointer) and Aisling Maguire scored eight points each.
For Hamden out of the SCC, Taniyah Thompson scored 25 points and Tahji Mozyck 10.
Trumbull will visit Norwalk High Thursday at 7.
The Eagles will host Danbury High on Tuesday at 7.
