Girls basketball: Trumbull moves to 6-1 with win
The Trumbull High girls basketball team used a 21-9 edge in the second quarter to help defeat Staples High, 49-27, in Westport on Tuesday.
Coach Steve Tobitsch’s Eagles will bring a 6-1 record, 3-0 in the FCIAC, into their game with St. Joseph in the first game of the 9th annual Officials vs Cancer fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society at Fairfield University beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9.
One dollar from every $6 ticket sold will be donated to the cause.

Alyssa Breunig scored 13 points, Claudia Tucci 12 and Taylor Brown to lead Trumbull against Staples.
Nina Vetter and Julie Keckler scored four points each. Breunig and Tucci had 10 rebounds apiece.
Gaby Perry made three 3-pointers and scored nine points to lead the Wreckers.
