Alyssa Zito made a 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining to lift the St. Joseph girls basketball team to a 42-41 victory over Pomperaug High in Southbury on Tuesday night.

Zito’s trey completed a 16-10 run in the fourth quarter for coach Chris Lindwall’s Cadets.

Megan Robertson and Zito finished with eight points each.

Tessie Hynes scored seven. Robertson hit two 3-pointers and Kathryn Zito and Hynes one each.

The Cadets’ Jade Hill had nine rebounds and blocked six shots.

Kathryn Zito had five assists and three steals.

Pomperaug out of the SWC was led by Megan Todhunter (13 points) and Karli Opalka (12 points).

The Panthers trailed 7-6 after one period, but took a 17-12 lead into the half.

The rivals scored 14 points each in the third quarter.
