The Trumbull High football team lost to New Canaan, 44-14, at McDougall Stadium on Friday night.

The Rams improved to 8-0. Trumbull is 5-3.

New Canaan took a 14-0 lead after one quarter on a pair of touchdown passes from Drew Pyne to Quinton O’Connell (22, 67 yards).

The state’s second-ranked team extended its advantage to 37-0 at the half on a safety, a punt return for a score, a fumble return for a touchdown and Pyne’s 1-yard run.

Trumbull scored in the third quarter on Johnny McElroy’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Danny Hoffmann and Ryan Ruff’s PAT.

After Pyne threw a 5-yard touchdown pass in the final period.

Trumbull closed the scoring on McElroy’s 7-yard TD pass to Patrick Daly.
