Trumbull High’s football team lost to Danbury High, 39-27, on Saturday.

The Eagles’ Colton Nicholas threw for three touchdowns and ran for another.

Points off turnovers proved to be the difference as an interception return and recovered block punt in the end zone helped the host Hatters improve to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the FCIAC.

Danbury scored the first three touchdowns, before the Eagles, now 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the FCIAC, tallied 21 second quarter points to take a 21-20 lead into the half.

After a scoreless third period, Danbury went ahead when Solomon James recovered the blocked punt for a touchdown and a 26-21 lead.

Joe Merhi’s 2-yard run took the margin to 32-21.

Nicholas threw a 73-yard TD pass to Cranston, who had three conversion kicks in the game.

Diante Vines’ 44-yard run and Jessica Resendes’ PAT completed the scoring.

Vines put the first score on the board with a 97-yard interception return.

James (1-yard run) and Fabio DeOliveira (4-yard run) found paydirt and Lucas Amaral had a conversion kick for a 20-0 lead.

Nicholas began the comeback with a 15-yard run, then threw TD passes of 24 yards to Peter Schmitz and 7 yards to Kyle Atherton.
