
Cory Babineau threw six touchdown passes, four to Jared Mallozzi, and the St. Joseph football team defeated Ledyard High, 50-12, on Saturday.
Coach Joe Della Vecchia’s Cadets (1-1) will play host to Brien McMahon on Saturday at 1:30. The Senators (0-2) lost to Wilton, 28-7.
Ledyard (0-2) took the lead when Stanley Greene returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard score.
Babineau, who passed for 287 yards, tied the game with a 14-yarder to Jared Mallozzi and Luke Kirby gave St. Joseph the lead with his conversion kick.
Phil Pesmeg’s 29-yard reception gave put St. Joseph in front 13-6 after one period.
Babineau connected with Mallozzi for a 10-yard score, but Ledyard’s Manny DeShields-Sanabria broke off a 79-yarder to take the score to 21-12.
The Cadets added two more scores before the half. Mallozzi caught a 29-yard pass from Babineau, who then hooked up with Pesmeg from 36 yards out.
Kirby, who kicked six PATS, booted a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Mallozzi’s 25-yard touchdown catch made it 44-12 after three quarters.
Jaden Shirden scored on a 2-yard run in the final period.
