Football: St. Joseph shuts out Ridgefield, 42-0

St. Joseph went on the road and defeated the Ridgefield Tigers, 42-0, last Friday.

The Cadets took the lead midway through the opening quarter when Jaden Shirden scored on a 2-yard run. David Summers twice kept the chains moving with a pair of quarterback sneaks.

The Hogs defense got the ball back after a quarterback sack of Owen Matthews. Facing a 3rd-and-13 from the Tigers’ 35, Summers ran for 12 yards. On 4th-and-one, he went up top to Will Diamantis for a 24-yard score.

After an interception, Summers hooked up with Diamantis on the first play with a 35-yard touchdown pass. The first of three conversion kicks by Luke Kirby made it 20-0.

The Cadets scored once more in the half, after a stunning off balance 62-yard pass from Summers to Diamantis that set up a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ace Luzietti and it was 26-0 at the break.

The second half was highlighted by Shirden. He dashed for a 59 yard touchdown in the third and a 19 yarder in the fourth. Before Shirden’s last touchdown run Ridgefield committed a safety. That made the final, 42-0.
