Football: St. Joseph pulls away to defeat Warde

The St. Joseph football team defeated Fairfield Warde, 41-14, on Friday.

The Cadets improved to 5-1. Warde is 1-5.

Warde took the lead on Mike Whiting’s 78-yard touchdown pass from David Summers, who booted the PAT.

Corey Babineau’s 46-yard TD pass to Jared Mallozzi, and Luke Kirby’s conversion kick, tied the game at 7 after one period.

Bryan Azarian gave the Mustangs back the lead on a 1-yard run, but the Cadets scored three touchdowns in the quarter to take a 28-14 lead into the half.

Jaden Shirden scored on a 3-yard run, Phil Pesmeg caught a 72-yard TD pass from Mallozzi and Brian Harner’s was on the receiving end of a 3-yard score.

Babineau scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and connected again with Mallozzi, this time on a 5-yarder, in the final period.
