St. Joseph’s Brian Harner recovered a Westhill High fumble inside the Cadets’ 10-yard line with three minutes remaining, and the Hogs defeated the Vikings 19-14 in FCIAC football action in Trumbull on Saturday.

St. Joseph improved to 8-1. Westhill is 3-6.

Jaden Shirden gave the Cadets a 7-0 lead after one period, with a 7-yard run followed by a Luke Kirby extra point.

Cory Babineau threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Shirden for a 13-0 advantage, before the Vikings’ Everett Charles Brown returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards and Matt Alswanger hit the PAT.

St. Joseph extended it 13-7 halftime lead when Babineau connected with Jared Mallozzi for a 33-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Westhill made it 19-14 in the final period on Blake Newcomer’s 48-yard TD pass to Jeremy Young.
