The St. Joseph football team took a 28-0 lead after one period and went on to defeat Brien McMahon, 49-7, in Norwalk on Friday night.

With the victory, coach Joe Della Vecchia’s Cadets improved to 8-1 and secured a Class S quarterfinal home game.

Rocky Hill and Ansonia also clinched home games. Thirteen teams are competing for the final five spots.

Jaden Shirden had four touchdowns and David Summers tossed three scoring passes against McMahon.

Shirden rushed for 100 yards on six carries. Summers completed 12-of-15 passes for 207 yards.

Phil Pasmeg (35 yards), Shirden (17 yards) and Will Diamantis (17 yards) caught TD passes.

Shirden also found paydirt from 4, 5 and 89 yards out.

Jude Andrzejewski ran for a 1-yard TD.

Luke Kirby made seven conversion kicks and St. Joseph led 49-0 at the half.

Leandro Martin scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter for McMahon (1-8).
