The Trumbull High girls lacrosse team lost to Fairfield Ludlowe, 13-9, in a Class L state tournament opening round game in Fairfield on Saturday.

Coach Mike Spinner’s 18th-seeded Eagles finish their season with a 6-10-1 record.

Ludlowe (8-7-1), the 15th seed, will play at second-seeded Darien High in the next round. Ludlowe defeated Trumbull, 16-4, in the regular season.

“This was a battle from start to finish and was anybody’s game,” Spinner said.  “Senior Arianna Matz capped off a stellar career with a 23-save effort, many of which were of the spectacular variety. She also led an outstanding transition game that led to several of our goals.

“Offensively, senior Natalie Crowe had three goals and two assists, while fellow senior Carly Goroff chipped in two goals and an assist.

“Both Crowe and Goroff finished their season with 31 goals scored after today’s effort.

“Junior Melissa Lindine also had a terrific all-around game with two goals and an assist. Senior Nora Collins and junior Jamie Appelberg each chipped in a goal.”
