The Trumbull High wrestling team will compete this weekend at the FCIAC Championships at New Canaan High School.
Leading the way for coach Niko Filippakis’ Eagles (25-9, 10-2 FCIAC) will be past FCIAC place-winners Brandon Liscinsky, David Briganti and Brandon Fulco.
A senior wrestling at 126 pounds, Liscinsky went 30-3 in the regular season. He placed second at FCIACs and third in Class LL a year ago.
Briganti is 17-6 on the season at 152 pounds, and last year as a junior took third in both the FCIACs and Class LL.
Fulco, another outstanding senior, will bring a 36-4 record at 160 pounds into the FCIACS, where he placed third last season.
Cross Cannone, a sophomore at 113 pounds, is 31-4 and was third in Class LL as a freshman.
Senior Dylan Haviland is 16-18 at 120 pounds.
Kevin Cecio, a junior with an 18-15 record at 132 pounds, is a darkhorse to place in both FCIACs and states.
Adam Angelucci had a fine 23-15 season as a sophomore at 138 pounds.
Stephen Briganti posted a 28-9 record as a sophomore at 145 and is a strong contender to place in FCIACs.
Erik Mercado has stormed his way to 34-5 record at 195 pounds in his first season wrestling varsity, and the senior will challenge for the top spot on the podium at FCIACs.
John Miolene, who was out a year ago with an ankle injury, stepped in this season for the injured Andrew Marino and has posted a 20-8 record at 220 pounds.
Trumbull defeated Ridgefield, 44-28, to close out the dual-match season on Wednesday.
