Eagles defeat Knights in five sets to advance to FCIAC semifinals

Sydney Adams had 49 assists to set up the offense and coach Tamara DeBerry’s Trumbull High girls volleyball team scored a 3-2 (14-25, 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-9) road victory over Stamford High in the FCIAC quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The seventh-seeded Eagles (12-7) will meet third-seeded Fairfield Ludlowe (17-2) in the Falcons’ gym in the semifinals on Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the title match versus Greenwich or Darien on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ludlowe.

Mia Hampford had 20 kills and a pair of blocks and Alyssa Breunig had nine kills and four blocks against the second-seeded Black Knights (16-2).

Kristen Peterson paced the defense with 45 digs and Hampford had 20.

Adams led from the service stripe with 13 winners, including three aces. Peterson had 11 service points.
