Fairfield Prep senior Drew Thompson from Trumbull proved to be the fastest in the field at the New England High School Cross Country Championships in Belfast, Maine, this past Saturday.

With a winning time of 15:16 over the challenging 5K course, Thompson was a full 31 seconds faster than his closest competitor. He led from start to finish.

Undefeated this season, Thompson has notched wins at the Wilton Invitational and the prestigious Thetford Woods Trail run in Vermont. Earlier this month, he won the Connecticut State Open.

Next up for Thompson is the Footlocker Regionals in New York’s Van Cortlandt Park on Thanksgiving weekend.

Going against the best cross country runners in the Northeast, Thompson hopes to finish in the top ten and return to the Footlocker National race in San Diego.

Running in the 2016 edition of that race, Thompson came in 35th out of an elite field of 40.

Thompson has committed to continuing his education at Dartmouth College, next year.
