Dream Invitational: Trumbull's Gleen leads way for FCIAC's best
Trumbull High’s Tyler Gleen posted a personal best in the 800 meter run competition at the Dream Invitational at Danbury.
A junior, Gleen’s time of 1:52.21 clocked .01 under his winning time and previous best at the Loucks Games.
Gleen took the win out pacing Terrell Cunningham of Danbury, who placed second in 154:63, Jake Roberts from Danbury was third in 154:94 and Michael Delfay from Brewster (N.Y.) fourth in 1:55.69.
Eric van der Els of Brien McMahon smashing the meet record in the mile run by nearly six seconds, with a personal-best time of 4:05.30, well under the old record set by Wilton standout Spencer Brown of 4:11.16
On the girls side, Trumbull put together an 800 sprint medley team of Gesica Scaccia, Haley Mocker, Rebecca Crosley and Kate Romanchick.
The squad consisted of two 100-meter sprinters, a 200 and 400 meter runner.
Mocker, Scaccia and Crosley are top sprinters for Trumbull. Romanchick, a distance runner, stepped out of her comfort zone to try her hand at the 400.
The girls set out to qualify for Nationals and they achieved that goal with a time of 1:53.74.
They placed fourth overall.
