Trumbull High took on Danbury High in a spirited FCIAC wrestling match featuring two of the best teams in the state on Wednesday night.
Danbury, ranked No. 1 in the state media poll, scored a 42-27 victory over No. 9 Trumbull on Alumni Night in Trumbull.
Tristan Haviland got the match off to a good start for coach Niko Filippakis’ Eagles (8-2) with a 10-3 win in the 106-pound match.
Danbury (6-0) won the next three weights before Cross Cannone posted a 6-2 win in his 132-pound match.
Danbury again strung together three wins to take a 30-6 lead.
Stephen Briganti, who recently won his 100th career match, scored a pin in 1:08 for Trumbull at 160 and Joey Ryan won a 7-3 decision at 170.
Danbury sewed up the team win with a pin at 182 and won again at 195.
Trumbull’s Desmond Washington and Stephen D’Amato closed the match with pins at 220 (2:34) and heavyweight (3:37), respectively.
