
The Trumbull girls cross country team had a nail biter when the Eagles competed against Greenwich and Norwalk on their home 2.9 trail on Tuesday.
Trumbull's Kate Romanchick ran side by side with Greenwich's Emily Philippides and Hetty McMillen, leading the pack by more than a minute. In the final stretch Romanchick and Philippides broke away for an exciting sprint to the finish.
The girls finished within three milliseconds of each other, with Philippides taking it in 18:29.30 and Romanchick in second in 18:29.60. McMillen had a strong third-place finish in 18:35.60.
The top six Trumbull closers were Margaret LoSchiavo 19:59.43, Molly Malloy 20:14.22, Sophia Hollywood 20:14.78, Alexandra Zaffina 20:25 and Megan Becker 20:49.
Trumbull (4-2) defeated Norwalk and lost to Greenwich.
